BLI's mighty Great Northern
S-2 will make its new Hybrid debut this Fall 2015 and we are quite thrilled
about it. Why, you ask? Because this iteration of the S-2 represents our
latest technology in Brass-Hybrid manufacturing to date! We hand-solder and
compose the body shells of both the locomotive and tender using brass sheet
metal and brass detail parts to achieve the most realistic and finely
detailed S-2 possible all while utilizing precision-tooled die cast chassis
for both the locomotive and tender to ensure the most reliable and precise
operation possible. The end result is a GN S-2 that is far better than any
mass produced unit, yet also better than any all-brass unit. A true
masterpiece, indeed, at a fraction of the price of brass!
All of the images you see
here are recently taken photos of production units of both the Open Cab
version and the Vestibule Cab version. Hand soldering takes an enormous
amount of time and skill, which is reflected in the investment required to
obtain one of these beauties. But we promise that both the wait and price
will be well worth it!
