sound-equipped locomotives. These DC and DCC-Sound equipped locomotives
feature the ALL-NEW Paragon4 sound and control system. Each Paragon4
locomotive comes with BLI's own integral DCC Decoder factory installed.
Paragon4 locomotives offer Dual Mode DC and DCC operation with superb back
EMF motor control, improved DC motor control, built-in capacitor pack for
more reliable electrical pick-up, industry best on-board sound with
Rolling Thunder functionality, Pro Lighting Mode for prototypical light
control, Switcher model for precise low speed control, recordable DCC
operation for automated playback, and excellent detail that meets or
exceeds our Paragon3 Series models.

The first
Mikado type locomotives on the ATSF came from the Baldwin Locomotive Works
in 1902. The Santa Fe took delivery of 308 2-8-2 Mikados over the next
25 years. The last group was the 4000 Class built by Baldwin between 1921
and 1926. The class consists of 101 locomotives. Our model is a
reproduction of the locomotives numbered 4015 - 4100. All of our models
feature a Delta trailing truck, extended cab, Elesco feedwater heater,
Walshaert valve gear, and a 15k gallon oil tender,. We are modeling two
primary variations - a standard road service version, and a later
switching service version. The switcher version has switching pilots on
the front and rear, and also a large rear headlight mounted on the tender
deck. We have also modeled two main driver variations - spoked and disc
versions - which will be installed on the correct road numbers per
prototype photographs. The disc driver was a modern feature added to the
locos beginning around 1946. However, many spoked drivers remained in use
until the locomotives were scrapped.
